LMQG May Meeting Recap

Nancy Goff and Diane Wilson gave a great talk and visual demonstration of the Modern Element: Alternate Grids. Learned so many new things like Hierarchical! Lots of ideas on new ways to layout your blocks and quilts. Here are some of the images from the  presentation on various grid layouts.

Crafthouse owner Sonya Nelson and previous partner and founder Ally talked about the store and some of it's many products and services such as the Bloc Loc rulers and the ability to rent longarm time or have a quilt done by them. The store covers many areas of textiles such as garment making and yarn as well as quilting. They have classes and free time sessions to work on whatever you choose.

August Challenge

"We need a volunteer or team of volunteers to organize and carry out a Modern challenge to be proposed in August and presented in October of 2018. The theme is up to you. You can do something with a technique, color, or other theme, use any aspect of Modern Quilting. We would need the challenge guidelines ready to be presented in August. This is a short termed volunteer position that is fun for all, and always with interesting and exciting results. Please consider taking on this position on your own or with a friend or two! Contact Peg Pennell at isoqlts@hotmail.com with any questions. Thanks in advance for your help!!"

May Meeting Reminder

Speaker Sonya Nelson of Crafthouse will tell us more about the store's history and products and introduce us to Loc Bloc rulers.

Modern Elements: Alternate Grid Work
presented by Nancy Goff and Diane Wilson

Traditional quilts are commonly laid out in columns and rows in a predictable brick structure.
Modern quilts can still follow traditional grid structures, for example, using graphic color palettes or an unpredictable orientation of the blocks creating a modern esthetic while maintaining a traditional structure.
Modern quilts often use alternative gridwork to incorporate other elements such as asymmetry, negative space and scale with a less predictable layout.

Modern Show & Tell: Bring your modern works of art to share with us!
