Meeting Recap June 2022

Program: Color Theory

“All colors are the friends of their neighbors and the lovers of their opposites.”
                                                                                -Marc Chagall

“Color, in my opinion, behaves like man in two distinct ways: first in self realization and then in the realization of relationships with others.”               -Josef Albers

Jennifer McKitrick reviewed color theory basics and shared two quilt tops.

The first illustrates an analogous color scheme (blue, teal, and green) and gradation (light to dark).

The second illustrates transparency, or color blending, at the center of each 9-patch.

The color theory panel from right to left: Kris Jarchow, Mary Dittenber, and Chris Taylor, holding a color wheel. They each shared four quilts showing their great sense of color.

Program: Quilted Wearables with Sheila Green

Sheila Green gave us a fantastic presentation on quilted wearables.

She discussed the history, the controversy, and fashion trends.

She gave us tips, ideas, and inspiration for making our own quilted jackets, along with a stunning show of her makes (and others') with the help of volunteer models from our membership.

Watch this space for quilted wearable resources, including information about Sheila's August 13 workshop.

Scenes from the presentation:

What kind of quilt would make a good jacket?  Try it on and find out!

Members strut their stuff on the runway!

Thanks again to Sheila for putting together a wonderful presentation!
