Improv Challenge

Improv Processes:

1. Purchased patterns or designs

-change up fabrics, colors, change layout or size, maybe secondary patterns, change size of design, make only one block and so on.

2. No Plan: Create shapes and odd sized pieces, strips etc…

-work out sections and build the piece up with no particular outcome

(Sherri Lynn Wood’s flexible patterning - “Yes, and”- philosophy)

3. With intent

-design blocks, shapes etc with a plan for placement, size or finish for the most part

4.  Inspired by something in nature, photograph or emotion

-work to recreate it or small portion of it (leaning towards art quilts) and can fall into any of the above.

The challenge:
  • Make a quilt at least 80 inches perimeter.
  • Choose one of the 4 improv processes above.
  • Due April meeting (Apr 25).

Paint Chip Challenge 2020

Welcome to the Paint Chip Challenge!
The challenge is to make a quilt with three colors alone. No neutrals (blacks, grays, whites, tans, beiges). Pick one of the the six groups below.

How to do it:
1. We have 3 paint chips grouped and assigned numbers 1-6.
2. Pick one of these groups of 3 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6). We were going to assign them, but decided that we should have people pick to ensure you had the colors at home.
3. Match these colors with your stash the best you can. Variations in hue are fine.
4. Make a quilt that is a minimum of 24 inches square in or a maximum of lap-sized (you determine whose lap).
5. Use any modern technique.
6. Show your finished quilt by June, 2020

This challenge has no rules...YEAH...except you must bring your completed quilt to the October 30th meeting, quilted and bound. That's it. The finished piece must have been started after the August meeting! Size doesn't matter in this case, that's up to you.
