September LMQG Program with Robbi Eklow

Please join us for our September 30th meeting when the featured program will be Robbi Eklow as she talks about her process and shows us some of her beautiful work. Robbi Joy Eklow has been making quilts for about fifty years. Her quilts are art quilts, usually using fabrics she has dyed herself, appliqued by fusing and then freemotion quilted.

Robbi wrote a column for Quilting Arts Magazine, under the byline “Goddess of the Last Minute” for twelve years. She has also written articles for several other quilting magazines, including the AQS Journal, the SAQA Journal, Quilter’s Newsletter, and her work has appeared in several magazines in other countries.

Robbi has been teaching other quilters to freemotion quilt, and to make fused art quilts, beginning in the late 90’s. She continues to lecture and teach occasionally.

Robbi and her husband Brian both graduated from Purdue University in 1980. They have two children, her daughter Samantha Kruse and her family live in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and her son and his family live in Omaha, Nebraska. Brian and Robbi spent most of their lives in Illinois, until 2017, when they started moving to Nebraska to be near their family. They now live in Mills County, Iowa in a house with a walkout basement that is now her studio. For years she had a studio at the Hot Shops Art Center in Omaha, but moved everything home in 2024 to be able to work in the middle of the night, or take naps in between quilting sessions.

Robbi’s work has appeared in many major quilt shows in the US, including Quilt Festival in Houston, AQS shows all around the country, and most of the Mancuso quilt shows at one time or another. She has had work in Quilt National twice.
