May 2025 LMQG Meeting

 

Don't miss out on our May LMQG meeting! At the top we'll cover a short section with an update on programs, information on the QuiltCon Community quilt for the 2026 show, Lux challenge, Christmas party and have a sign up reminder for our June Sew Day activity.

 
The main program for the night will be a Zoom session beginning at 5:45 with Peter Byrne called Behind the Seams. Peter Byrne is a published, national and international award-winning, modern quilter and teacher with a deep passion for innovation and design. There will be a Q&A session to follow. Behind the Seams with Peter Byrne is made possible with a grant from the Nebraska State Quilt Guild.

Please view the meeting notes linked above for all the 'happenings' from the meeting. Highlights included a budget update, program planning discussion and a note that planning is in progress for the next guild retreats. 

Don't forget that the due date for Color Improvisation 3 challenge #2 is coming up. If you haven't started, the details can be found here.

We have great programs coming up this year. In May Peter Byrne will give a virual trunk show via Zoom, June is a scrap bash event and challenge #3 will be announced, and July will be a member spotlight with Martha Turner and Elisa Salas.

Don't forget to contact Bonnie Kucera to sign up for her applique session she will be hosting at the June 14th Sew Day. She needs to know how many will be coming so she can bring enough supplies for all.

Sheila Green gave us a video highlight of the Color Improvisation 3 exhibit in the IQM gallery, and then we all went upstairs to be inspired for our Lux challenge!

Our members also brought in their finished blocks from our first challenge of the year to take a traditional block and make it modern.

And - we also had some show and tell mixed in!

Behind the Seams with Peter Byrne - May 27th LMQG Meeting

Please join the LMQG on May 27 at the International Quilt Museum. Meeting begins at 5:30, Peter's Zoom presentation at 5:45, with a Q&A session to follow. Behind the Seams with Peter Byrne is made possible with a grant from the Nebraska State Quilt Guild.

Peter Byrne is a published, National and International award-winning, modern quilter and teacher with a deep passion for innovation and design. "My strength is maintaining a fresh approach to quilting, with original designs and technical mastery. My goal is innovation, my passion is creativity and I am thrilled to have opportunities to share my work within the quilting community."
This presentation includes over 350 slides, taking viewers through his own personal quilting journey. In total, Peter shares over 20 quilts and going virtual has allowed him to include “how to” pictures of his quilt making process, along with close ups of every quilt.

2026 QuiltCon Community Quilt Challenge is Here!

The community challenge for QuiltCon 2026 has been announced. We will talk more about it in our May meeting!

Community Outreach Challenge QuiltCon 2026

Gather your local MQG or team of Individual MQG members and start planning your design with the theme of medallion quilts! Choose ONE of the color palettes below and use it in its entirety. Medallion quilts are a fun way to work as a group and experiment with different repeating shapes and secondary patterns.

The Community Outreach exhibit will be capped at 80 entries. Submissions will open on October 15, 2025 at 12:00 a.m. ET.  A quilt top or rendered quilt design is acceptable to hold a space in the exhibit. (Pictures of fabric will not be accepted.) Entries will close when the exhibit reaches 80 entries, and a waitlist will open. If the exhibit does not reach 80 entries, submissions will close December 15, 2025. Palette #1 - Brights
