Come Join Our April 12th Sew Day!

 

The April 12th Sew Day will feature a skill building session on half square triangles (HSTs). We’ll step through tips and techniques for making one or two at a time up to 32 at a time using fabric strips, fabric tubes, squares and fat quarters. There may be some easy math to do if you want to figure out other sizes, and web resources and links will be provided to help find HST info online to follow up on your own after our session.  If you just want to take notes and draw along with the examples, bring some paper and pencils/pens and a ruler to try and keep your lines straight, otherwise bring your machine and fabric.

Below are suggested pre-cut sizes that will result in 4-½” unfinished HSTs. The 12” square will be cut into 32 2-½” unfinished HSTs. You will be able to turn these HSTs into a project of your own so choose coordinating fabric, or if you are looking to do a little scrap busting, dig through those leftovers! Remember Kris’s charity quilt information at the last sew day? These HST techniques are a perfect way to make a big impact in a short amount of time.

We would like this to be interactive and know that most sewists have their favorite way to make HSTs, so please feel free to share your process or best tip during our session. We will have a few tools that you will be able to try out that may not be in your own sewing room. If you have a project made from HSTs that you would like to show, bring that along!

Pre-cut fabric suggestions (all measurements/cuts assume two colors of fabric, right sides together):

• 4-½” strips, width of fabric (WOF)

• 4” strip, WOF (4-½” unfinished)

• 5” square (2 @ 4-½” unfinished)

• 7-¼” or 7-½” square (4 @ 4-½” unfinished)

• 11” square (8 @ 4-½” unfinished)

• 12” square (32 @ 2-½” unfinished)

• 14” square (16 @ 4-½” unfinished)

• 15” x 20” rectangle (24 @ 4-½” unfinished)

Additional tools you may want:

• One or two different color fabric marking pens

• Rulers with ¼” markings

• Rotary cutter and cutting mat

• Some sewing pins

• Don’t forget your power cord if you bring your machine,and the basics like thread and scissors!

March 2025 LMQG Meeting

 

The March meeting is coming up and you won't want to miss it! We'll start off with announcements and recap the current challenges, run through the programs we have planned for 2025, then Sheila Green will give us a recap of QuiltCon 2025 with Elisa Salas, Deb Ebke, and Janeese Olsson. Make sure to arrive a bit early since you know the raffle prizes usually include some QuiltCon gems, and don't forget about that zip-up sweatshirt. We will draw for that as well this month. Following that will be the member's show and tell so bring all the great things you have been working on.

National Quilting Day - March 15th!

National Quilting Day 2025 at the International Quilt Museum!

Did you know that National Quilting Day started in Lincoln, NE in 1991? Members of the National Quilting Association passed a resolution to celebrate quilting. See you at the International Quilting Day Museum on March 15!

There are three great lectures happening during the day. Sandy Griepenstroh on "My Quilting Journey", Camilo Sanchez on "Exhibitions at IQM", and Mac Barnes on "Stitching the Future: Tech Meets Tradition in Quilting". Each lecture is presented twice, morning and afternoon, each identical.

All the participating sponsors will be on hand to share tips and tricks and give a preview of the latest products and machines you might find in their shops.
