Sew Day - May 11th!

Sunday, May 5, 2024

Don't forget our upcoming Sew Day this Saturday, May 11 from 10:30 - 3:00. We have invited the Omaha Modern Quilt Guild to join us for this open sew day. As always, bring a project you are working on, need advice on, or even want to give just a short technique demo about. This is your time to sew without all those pesky interruptions at home. Bring a sack luch if you wish and there will be a refrigerator available if needed.

Also - if you have an idea for a Sew Day workshop you can download the form from our Community Facebook page. Dates we are looking to fill are July 13th, (form due by June 1), September 14th (form due July 1) and November 9th. Paper piecing, applique, big hand stitching, surface design technique, a project like a bag or wall hanging? Think about what others may want to learn or make.

Modern Traditionalism MQG Resources

The first three months of this year, the MQG was focusing on Modern Traditionalism. They published a video on January 8th from Holly Clarke that looked at the modern traditionalist quilting style. They suggested some questions to make you think about the style:
  1. What other traditional aesthetics have you seen in quilts?
  2. What other modern aesthetics have you seen in quilts?
  3. What are other ways to incorporate modern design elements in traditional quilting outside of the ones Holly discussed in the video?
  4. What is your favorite way to incorporate traditional elements into your modern quilts?
  5. If you are someone who enjoys making modern traditional quilts, what draws you to this style?
They followed the video up with the Mini-Satsuma and the Satsuma free patterns and quilt-a-long activity.
Take a look back through all of the Modern Traditionalism articles and free patterns in the MQG resource library linked below - all a benefit from your memebership in the LMQG/MQG! If you aren't a member, consider joining today!
