This
year’s family-friendly event features: block printing prayer flags and making
fabric bracelets, inspired by the quilts from India and Africa. There will be handwork demonstrations featuring
techniques seen in the quilts on display.
Quilts of Valor will be our community outreach program, including a
large display of patriotic quilts and a workshop. Have your picture taken with our "Photo
Frame"! Collection Care in Action
will be featured in our Conservation Workroom where guests can learn from
volunteers and staff how the museum cares for textiles.
What's new in the quilting industry? AccuQuilt, Aurifil & Handi Quilter, as
well as local shops: Bernina Sewing Center, Cosmic Cow, and Sew Creative, will
have all the latest machines and products for you to see.
Guests can tour the quilt exhibitions in the galleries:
Collecting and Recollecting: Contemporary Quilts in Western India, From Kente to Kuba: Stitched Textiles from West and Central Africa,
Stitching the Transatlantic: Liberian Quilts from the John Singer Collection,
Los Desconocidos: Migrant Quilts and Valerie Goodwin: Mapping.
We
hope that you will make plans to attend National Quilting Day 2019!
