Art Elements in Modern Quilts - Vicky Bidell - Shape
A shape is an element of art. Specifically, it is an enclosed space, the boundaries of which are defined by other elements of art (i.e.: lines, colors, values, textures, etc.). Shapes are limited to two dimensions: length and width.
Shape can be the shape of the piece itself, like a square, circle or octagon or the shapes within the work ranging from organic to squares, circles triangles etc. Shapes can be used to make a different shapes as is seen in the skeleton head made up of squares.
This last quilt that Vicky showed us was actually a belated Christmas gift for Kathy and a surprise one at that.

Kristi - Design Walls (Spruce Crafts)
A design wall, even in a small space, is almost essential. It gives a new perspective on your work and is easier to work on than a floor or even table top. Several types are available for both stationary, removable or portable types that can be made or purchased.
Phyllis - Using your phone and/or camera for your designs.
The distance perspective you get when taking a picture can help identify problem areas in layout or value. You can easily view a photo on your phone by changing the image to black and white allowing you to see how well your values are distributed. There are applications that will allow you to transfer your pictures from your phone to your computer.
Mary - Caring for your machine - Clean after each project to prevent build up of "fur" in the bobbin space of your machine. You can use a cosmetic brush or, for deeper cleaning, purchase a vacuum attachment available in some local fabric stores or online.
Sheree - UFO challenge ( MotherTown Quilters UFO Challenge HERE)
Challenge yourself to pick up that old project that you were perhaps stuck on or just lost interest in and review it again.
Julie - Stay organised. A place for everything, and everything in it's place. Bins, both purchased, given or made keep your tools and supplies in order. If your items have a place to go, it's easier to put them away after finishing a project and makes it easier to find what you need at a glance.

Rhonda - Get a grip on your stash.
There are many ways to keep track of your stash, especially the smaller bits and leftovers. Sort by color to help you find what you need quicker. Use things like empty paper towel rolls to roll larger pieces on and keep them free of folds and ready to go on that next project.
Nancy - Maintain your ironing station and tools.
Change your sticky, burnt worn out ironing board cover easily buy taking a fabric you have that might not be a favorite anymore and making a new one. Nancy used an old wool blanket purchased at a thrift store, and cut to shape as the base for her new cover. There are several free patterns for making a new cover online. Nancy suggests doing this once a year. While you are remaking your board, maintain your iron buy simply using one of the many cleaning products available. Another cleaning suggestion was to use the Magic Sponge cleaning sponge, wet, and run your warm, dry iron over it.
