February 2021 Meeting Recap


 

What a fabulous meeting! We loved seeing our members and sharing our passion for quilting.


Reminders

Carole Lyles Shaw will be presenting her lecture, What Makes a Modern Quilt and Trends in Modern Quilting, Tuesday, March 23rd at 5:30 PM. This lecture is available to members - don't miss it!

·         National Quilting Day, March 20th, will be virtual this year. Learn more here and here.

·         LMQG Challenge Quilt:  Inspired by Cindy Grisdela, any color, 24” x 24” will be due April 27. We have a pattern to help you this month with curves. Check out our Challenge Page!

·         March 8, 7:00 p.m. the Lincoln Quilters Guild program* will be Mary Ford.

·         QuiltCon will be in Phoenix, AZin 2022. Registration will be available mid-to-late Summer 2021.

·         Quilt Con will be in Atlanta, GA in 2023.

 

Technique of the Month - Stamping

Mary Dittenber shared how to make your own stamps
June Pederson showed how to use household items to make creative designs

Blocks to Creativity

Lora Yardley discussed the book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. Lora Yardley and Elisa Salas discussed letting go of our internal or external Quilt Police and allowing ourselves room to play. They shared many techniques including being told to be creative, napping, practicing creativity every day, decreasing clutter, guided help from others (guildies!), following people you admire, and contemplation time. 

They also reviewed design elements. These include: Symmetry/Asymmetry/Balance, Proportion/Placement, Lines, Movement/Rythym, Color/Value, Texture, Harmony, and Focal point/Emphasis.
