May Meeting Highlights: Boro and Sashiko

Wednesday, May 27, 2026

Last night for our LMQG meeting, Sheila Green took center stage and talked about the current Boro exhibit at the IQM.

So many interesting facts about these ancient textiles.

Sheila told us about the fronts the backs and the in-betweens of these cloths.

Some of the stitching upclose:

Now it was time to try some of the sashiko stitching ourselves.

Samples that were shown:

Each member had cloth and thread and some extra patches to practice stitching.

Our new challenge due in August:
Go Geometric

Each member drew a shape out of a bag and need to make that the focal point of their quilt. Solid fabrics only for this one. We are only working with three choices of shapes so it should make for some interesting quilts. No smaller than 25" on smallest side. We want you to use one or more of the MQG's design elements.
If you need a refresher on those look here: HERE
If you were not at the meeting and would like to participate (need to be member of our guild)
then send us a message and we will assign you a shape to work with. These are due at the August meeting. There is a possibility that your quilt could be included in the Lux Exhibition later in the fall. Good Luck!

We multitasked our meeting with our stitching so we had lots to discuss. Our bylaws need updating, we have our last Quiltcon quilt to give and we have a new one to design. Shannon and Ros are heading up that committee so if you would like to help let us know.
I am sorry to say I missed taking pics of some show and tell so please feel free to post on our community page your lovely completed works.

Our next meeting is June 30th.

Diane Gloystein is joining us to talke about Wearable Art!
I hope you can join us.
