In Memorium: Mary Ourecky

Mary was the Visitor Services Manager at the IQM and often stayed late so LMQG could use the seminar room for meetings after closing.  Mary passed on April 6. Her loss is deeply felt by our guild members. We were able to share with her before her passing a beautiful lap quilt, created by Jennifer McKitrick.

Book Review:  Foolproof Fabric Dying. Elisa Salas reported on this book, recommending it highly for anyone interested in dying your own fabrics.  The instructions were highly specific and included helpfully color-coded page corners. Remember to take precautions: wear a mask, work in well-ventilated areas, wear gloves and things you don't mind getting color on them! For cotton, you want fiber reactive dyes. You can find them at Dharma or Pro-Chem. Dharma has tutorials

TOM - Monograms and Letters:  Jeni spoke about how she found letters for the project.  The internet can be a source.  There are sites with fonts, some are free of copyright restrictions.  Jeni downloaded font she liked and enlarged them 250%.  Mary showed an example of an embroidered monogram.  A Cricut machine can be used for lettering projects.  Tom Meyer mentioned using a laser cutter, something he’s done at Innovation Campus.Check out more here!

TOM-Bias, Part 1:

Presentation on quilters using Bias Tape Techniques: Latifia Saafir, Joe Cunningham, Timna Tarr, Debby Grifka and ShannonBrinkley’s.

Part 2: At the in-person meeting in June, part 2 will be a demonstration on making bias tape with your own fabric.

Show and Tell
