Come Join Our February 8th Sew Day Activity!

We're trying something a little different this year with our February 8th Sew Day. Feel free to come and sew on a project of your choosing from 10:30 - 1 pm, but our own Kris Jarchow will be there to lead us through . . .

Stack, Strip or QAYG
your way to quickly making Charity Quilts

Let’s make some quilts from that large stash you have (I know it’s not just me that can’t see over my stash)
~ Bring your sewing machine and supplies as usual and whatever projects you want to work on.

Extra supplies:

I am looking for you to bring one, two or all of the following:

  • 10” square with a contrasting but coordinating 5” square - one of each to try my method of stacking and making a single  block.  (bring more if you want - I used 20 of each to create a kids size quilt, plus some extra fabric for sashing, kid friendly bright fabrics and if this is for you, you can keep making blocks to make it bigger)
  • Strip it. If you want to try this method of quickly stripping a quilt you will need to bring 8 - 4.5” wof strips. Contrasting, coordinating. The 8 strips can be divided into 4 each of 2 coordinating fabrics or (what I choose… 2 each of 4 coordinating but contrasting pieces) or you can make all 8 contrasting but scrappy pieces.  One of these sets of 8 strips will make a Kids size quilt if you add both a 2” border and a 4” border to this piece. But wait, there is more…if you like how quick and easy this is to make you can make 3 more groups of 8 strips and you will have a quilt big enough for a twin bed and you can skip the borders. Yay!
  • Lastly, QAYG projects vary so much. If you have lots of strip scraps that you want to use, this is a perfect method to try. You can bring a cut batting (80/20 or cotton only)piece 10.5” x 12” along with a same size backing fabric of your choice. Any strip scraps you have up to 2.5 wide. This project can be for one block to try it = potholder, or you can use all your scraps and batting scraps and continue making blocks. I will demo how to sash the blocks together on sew day.

January 2025 LMQG Meeting

It's time for our first meeting of 2025. Please note that this year we will not be hosting a remote Zoom option. As a reminder, if you haven't already renewed or joined the LMQG you can bring your payment to the meeting. For the details - Guild Info

Meeting agenda highlights are below, but please note the special format for our "presenter" for this meeting in place of the normal show and share. It’s You! We want to learn about your modern quilting journey. Each of you can bring 1-3 quilts. One should show your beginnings in modern quilting. Maybe it’s your first effort or your “almost modern”. One could be your most recent modern quilt, and one could be your favorite quilt. Choose quilts that will illustrate your modern quilting progress. Be prepared to tell us what you have learned and what has most challenged you.

Finally, don't forget that our first sew day of 2025 will be held on February 8th!

Meeting Agenda:
  • Welcome back
  • Goals for 2025 and important guild information
  • Raffle
  • Program:  “Your Journey through ‘Modern’ quilting”
If you are unable to attend any meetings, you can always catch up here: Meeting Minutes

It's 2025! Let's Get Together!

Hello members! Let's start off with the TLDR* bullet points, with more complete info below.

Welcome to 2025! We have a great year of programming planned for you. We hope you enjoy it. Remember we are always interested in your input and suggestions.
There are a few scheduling changes this year: Sew Days will meet on the second Saturday of even months (February, April, June, August). The first Sew Day will be February 8th and our very own Kristie Jarchow will lead an activity on making charity quilts quickly. You don’t want to miss this one.
The Board has decided to discontinue the Zoom option for meetings as the technical set-up was challenging and very few members used the option.
Our first guild meeting will be Tuesday, January 28 at 5:30pm at the IQM. Guess who our presenters are for the January meeting?
We can’t wait to see everyone and get to know each other better.
*TLDR = "Too Long, Didn't Read", as the kids like to say.
